Access-token disclosure via loose media URL matching
Published Oct 15, 2024 · Updated Oct 15, 2024
Information disclosure in Element Desktop 1.11.70 through 1.11.80 allows remote authenticated users to expose access tokens via malicious widgets. The Electron main process matches a Matrix media path as a raw URL substring and adds the account token without verifying that the request targets the homeserver. Exploitation requires a signed-in user to grant an untrusted widget permission, after which the token reaches an attacker-controlled origin.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
