Host process crash via tail-call stack walking
Published Oct 9, 2024 · Updated Oct 9, 2024
Denial of service in tail-call stack walking in Bytecode Alliance Wasmtime allows local users to crash the host via a crafted module. The stack walker assumes a WebAssembly frame remains after an entry trampoline tail-calls an exit trampoline, so a trapping imported host function reaches an internal assertion and raises a Rust panic. Exploitation requires execution of a malicious module using tail calls and a trapping host import; the demonstrated consequence is limited to a host-process crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
