Local kernel crash via NULL identifier dereference
Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel allows local users to crash the system through asymmetric-key lookup. The find_asymmetric_key() path warns when all three identifier arguments are NULL but then dereferences id_2 instead of rejecting the invalid call. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and an internal caller that supplies three NULL identifiers; the bounded consequence is a kernel oops and service interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
