CVE-2024-47723

Kernel memory corruption via unchecked allocation-group indexes

Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Out-of-bounds access in Linux JFS 2.6.12 and later before fixed stable releases allows local users to read or corrupt kernel memory. dbMount fails to reject excessive allocation-group counts, while dbNextAG and diAlloc use unchecked group indexes to access arrays beyond their bounds. Exploitation requires a crafted JFS image mounted locally and filesystem operations such as file creation; resulting memory corruption can panic the system.
