CVE-2024-47702

Local kernel compromise via sign-extended packet pointer

Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Out-of-bounds access in Linux 6.6 through 6.10.12 and 6.11 through 6.11.1 allows local users to read and corrupt kernel memory via crafted eBPF. The BPF verifier accepts a sign-extending 32-bit load of __sk_buff packet pointers, then convert_ctx_accesses truncates the 64-bit address while retaining pointer trust. Loading affected program types requires CAP_BPF or CAP_NET_ADMIN; execution enables privilege escalation or triggers a kernel panic.
