Filesystem hang via unlocked read-only flag update
Published Oct 21, 2024 · Updated May 23, 2026
Race condition in f2fs in affected Linux kernel builds allows attackers to hang filesystem freeze and teardown operations. f2fs_handle_critical_error sets SB_RDONLY without the sb->s_umount-protected remount path, so thaw_super skips the corresponding freeze unlock. Reachability requires an f2fs filesystem mounted with errors=remount-ro and overlap between a critical error and freeze or thaw processing.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
