CVE-2024-47669

Service hang via uncleared nilfs2 writeback state

Published Oct 9, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Denial of service in Linux nilfs2 allows local users to hang page-cache operations through writes to a mounted filesystem. The nilfs_segctor_do_construct() error path skips nilfs_segctor_abort_construction() after a later log-start failure, leaving writeback and NILFS_I_COLLECTED state uncleared. A low-privileged user needs write access to an already-mounted nilfs2 filesystem; the resulting hang blocks page-cache work, while a later partial log can omit data and b-tree blocks and corrupt block mappings.
