Application crash via malformed SSA override codes
Published Dec 11, 2024 · Updated Nov 3, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in GStreamer gst-plugins-base before 1.24.10 allows local users to crash applications with a crafted SSA subtitle. In gst_ssa_parse_remove_override_codes, a closing brace before an opening brace makes memmove duplicate text while its copy length grows across loop iterations, eventually writing past the allocated buffer. Exploitation requires a GStreamer application to parse the malformed SSA content, and the documented consequence is process-memory corruption followed by an application crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
