Sustained routing interruption via malformed BGP attribute
Published Oct 11, 2024 · Updated Oct 22, 2024
Improper exception handling in rpd in Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows remote attackers to crash the daemon via BGP. rpd fails to handle a specifically malformed path attribute in a BGP UPDATE, causing the process to crash and restart. An established BGP session and configured BGP neighbor are required; repeated updates sustain routing-service interruption, chiefly on 32-bit systems.
