CVE-2024-4741Network attack vector

Code execution via premature read-buffer release

Published Nov 13, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025

Use-after-free in SSL_free_buffers in OpenSSL allows remote attackers to corrupt data, crash the process, or execute code via crafted TLS records. tls_free_buffers releases the read buffer while a record body is incomplete or application data remains unreleased, leaving live data backed by freed memory. Exposure requires an application to call SSL_free_buffers on 1.1.1 before 1.1.1y, 3.0.0 through 3.0.13, 3.1.0 through 3.1.5, 3.2.0 through 3.2.1, or 3.3.0; FIPS modules are unaffected.
