CVE-2024-47250

Out-of-bounds reads via unchecked HCI report lengths

Published Nov 26, 2024 · Updated Dec 6, 2024

Out-of-bounds reads in Apache NimBLE 1.7.0 and earlier allow attackers to trigger bogus GAP device-found events through malformed HCI reports. The host event parser trusts report counts and data lengths without first proving that each legacy or extended advertising record fits inside the received event buffer. Reachability requires a broken or bogus Bluetooth controller feeding malformed advertising reports to the host; the published impact is limited to out-of-bounds access and spurious discovery events.
