CVE-2024-47211Network attack vector

Image tampering via skipped pre-conversion checksum

Published Oct 4, 2024 · Updated Nov 5, 2024

Improper image validation in OpenStack Ironic allows man-in-the-middle attackers to modify deployment images during transfer. When image_download_source is local and force_raw_images is true, the conductor converts a remotely fetched image before comparing it with the supplied checksum, then replaces that checksum with one for the converted file. An authenticated user must initiate deployment from a remote URL, and man-in-the-middle attackers positioned on the image path can alter the resulting bare-metal system image without detection by the supplied integrity value.
