CVE-2024-47194

Privilege escalation via current-directory DLL loading

Published Oct 8, 2024 · Updated Oct 8, 2024

Uncontrolled DLL search path in Siemens ModelSim and Questa before 2024.3 allows local users to execute code with elevated privileges. The vish2.exe process loads a specifically named DLL from its current working directory, allowing a user-writable directory to supply attacker-controlled code. Exploitation requires local authenticated access and an administrator or elevated process to start vish2.exe from that writable directory.
