CVE-2024-47188Network attack vector

Denial of service via predictable byte-range hashing

Published Oct 16, 2024 · Updated Oct 16, 2024

Denial of service in Suricata before 7.0.7 allows remote attackers to severely degrade inspection performance via crafted HTTP byte ranges. The HTTP byte-range tracker leaves the thash random seed uninitialized, making bucket selection predictable so crafted ranges concentrate entries in one bucket. No authentication or user interaction is required; collision-heavy traffic consumes processing capacity without reported data disclosure or modification.
