CVE-2024-47182Network attack vector

Password cracking via fast SHA-256 hashes

Published Sep 27, 2024 · Updated Sep 27, 2024

Weak password hashing in Amir Raminfar Dozzle before 8.5.3 allows attackers to recover passwords through offline guessing. GenerateUsers writes unsalted SHA-256 password digests to users.yml, making high-speed dictionary and rainbow-table testing practical. Exploitation requires access to a stored digest; a recovered password permits authentication as that configured user.
