Unauthenticated malicious-printer injection via trusted UDP packets
Published Sep 26, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025
Improper input validation in OpenPrinting cups-browsed 2.0.1 and earlier allows remote attackers to add a malicious printer via UDP. The daemon binds UDP port 631 to all interfaces, accepts legacy browsing packets from any source, and fetches printer attributes from an attacker-controlled IPP URL. No authentication is required, but command execution as the lp user requires the related IPP-to-PPD injection flaws and a print job sent to the added queue.
