Restricted file reads via incomplete path normalization
Published Oct 10, 2024 · Updated Oct 11, 2024
Path traversal in Gradio before 5.0.0 allows remote attackers to read restricted files through crafted path input. The is_in_or_equal function checks path containment without fully resolving parent-directory sequences, so crafted .. elements can pass its directory comparison. Exploitation requires a reachable app that relies on Gradio's blocklist or directory-access validation, particularly around file uploads.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
