CVE-2024-4712

SYSTEM code execution via unvalidated image path

Published May 14, 2024 · Updated Sep 26, 2024

Path traversal in PaperCut NG/MF before 23.0.9 allows local users to execute code as SYSTEM through the Web Print image handler. The image-handler process uses a user-supplied path in file operations without proper validation, allowing creation at attacker-chosen locations. Exploitation requires low-privilege code execution on a Windows server where the Web Print Server service is enabled and results in SYSTEM-context execution.
