Local privilege escalation via unchecked shared-memory lookup
Published Oct 25, 2024 · Updated Oct 25, 2024
Privilege escalation in the Android kernel on supported Google Pixel devices allows local users to access arbitrary physical memory. The sm_mem_compat_get_vmm_obj function in lib/sm/shared_mem.c fails to validate input before permitting access through the Trusty shared-memory path. Exploitation requires local access but needs no additional execution privileges or user interaction, and successful access can elevate privileges.
