Authenticated file disclosure via unchecked traversal path
Published Sep 18, 2024 · Updated Apr 17, 2025
Path traversal in Camaleon CMS before 2.8.2 allows remote authenticated users to read files through its private-media download endpoint. MediaController.download_private_file embeds params[:file] in a private path, while CamaleonCmsLocalUploader.fetch_file returns an existing path to send_file without rejecting two-dot segments. Any normal registered account can reach the endpoint; disclosure is limited to files readable by the Rails process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
