CVE-2024-46986Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Authenticated code execution via unchecked upload path

Published Sep 18, 2024 · Updated Apr 17, 2025

Path traversal in Camaleon CMS before 2.8.2 allows remote authenticated users to write arbitrary server files through media uploads. MediaController passes the untrusted folder parameter through upload_file into File.join, and the local uploader opens the resulting path for writing without validating that it stays under the media root. Any registered account can reach the upload route; placing Ruby code in config/initializers enables execution after the Rails application restarts, subject to filesystem permissions.
