CVE-2024-46981

Authenticated code execution via Lua garbage collection

Published Jan 6, 2025 · Updated Mar 19, 2025

Use-after-free in Redis before 6.2.17, 7.2.0 through 7.2.6, and 7.4.0 through 7.4.1 allows remote authenticated users to execute code. During scriptingRelease in src/eval.c, Redis closes the Lua VM without first collecting garbage, so destructor callbacks can use user data after it has been freed. Exploitation requires permission to run a crafted Lua script through EVAL or EVALSHA and can compromise the Redis server process.
