Authenticated script execution via forged OTR messages
Published Sep 24, 2024 · Updated Mar 25, 2025
DOM-based XSS in Rocket.Chat 6.12.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to run script in another user's browser. The updateOTRAck Meteor method accepted a caller-supplied message object and broadcast it without validating its fields, room type, room access, or claimed sender. A logged-in user who can reach the method can forge an OTR message carrying an XSS payload; execution requires another user to render the crafted message.
