CVE-2024-46853

Kernel heap over-read via unaligned FlexSPI write

Published Sep 27, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in Linux 5.1 through 6.11-rc7 allows attackers to read past a heap buffer through an unaligned NXP FlexSPI NOR write. In nxp_fspi_exec_op, the TX FIFO tail path copies a four-byte word from a shorter source buffer instead of limiting memcpy to the remaining data length. The demonstrated path writes three bytes to /dev/mtd0 on an NXP FlexSPI-equipped system; the published reproducer runs as UID 0 and records a KASAN-detected read without establishing direct disclosure of adjacent data.
