CVE-2024-46849

Local kernel-memory read via stale pad pointer

Published Sep 27, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

Use-after-free in affected Linux kernel branches allows local users to trigger an invalid read while loading the Meson AXG sound-card driver. In axg_card_add_link(), the pad pointer is initialized before meson_card_reallocate_links() reallocates card->dai_link, leaving pad to reference freed storage. Reachability requires the Meson AXG sound-card driver and a probe path that reallocates DAI links; the published report demonstrates an eight-byte invalid read, not code execution.
