Kernel-memory disclosure or panic via uninitialized pointer
Published Sep 27, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Uninitialized pointer access in affected Linux User-Mode Linux kernels allows local users to disclose kernel memory or panic the guest kernel. arch/um/drivers/line.c leaves error_out unset when setup_one_line() handles an already-invalid line, after which callers pass a null or stale pointer to strlen() or printk(). An ordinary local account able to write to the unauthenticated mconsole UNIX socket can trigger the deterministic crash; boot-time paths can instead expose kernel memory through the guest log.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
