Local denial of service via stale page-table assertions
Published Sep 27, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Denial of service in Linux kernel 6.6 through 6.10.9 allows local users to crash the system through a userfaultfd race. In mfill_atomic(), khugepaged can retract a shared-memory page table without holding the mmap lock after preliminary checks, yet two BUG_ON assertions assume dst_pmd is neither absent nor a transparent huge page. A low-privileged local process able to exercise userfaultfd on a shmem mapping can win the race and trigger a kernel BUG, interrupting the host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
