CVE-2024-46715

Kernel crash via unchecked IIO callback dereference

Published Sep 18, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel IIO sysfs interface allows local users to crash the kernel by reading exposed entries. The IIO core calls unimplemented read_avail and event-related iio_info callbacks without testing the function pointers, causing a NULL callback dereference. Reachability requires local access to a corresponding sysfs entry exposed by an IIO driver that omits the callback; the bounded consequence is a kernel oops and system interruption.
