Graphics interruption via cursor-buffer mapping race
Published Sep 13, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Race condition in the Linux vmwgfx driver allows local users to disrupt graphics processing through concurrent cursor-buffer updates. The KMS cursor update and comparison paths share persistent reads without tracking map users, so one path unmaps the buffer while another still reads it. The attack requires low privileges and a high-complexity local race; successful execution feeds bogus contents to the update path, with only availability impact documented.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
