CVE-2024-46695Network attack vector

NFS security-label modification via skipped LSM checks

Published Sep 13, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Improper permissions in affected Linux kernels allow remote attackers to change NFS file security labels despite root squashing. security_inode_setsecctx passes the label to __vfs_setxattr_noperm, which omits the complete security_inode_setxattr and LSM permission checks. Exploitation requires an NFSv4.2 server with labeled NFS enabled and an export using root squashing and the security_label option.
