TrustZone hang via write-back cmd-db mapping
Published Sep 13, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Denial of service in the Linux kernel allows local users to hang TrustZone through Qualcomm cmd-db shared-memory access. The Qualcomm command database driver maps XPU-protected cmd-db memory as write-back, so a clean cache eviction can be misread as a write and raise a secure interrupt. The endless loop requires Qualcomm hardware and a non-Qualcomm hypervisor, such as Xen or KVM, without the expected non-cacheable Stage 2 mapping.
