Remote code execution via unchecked WAN parameter copies
Published Sep 20, 2024 · Updated Sep 23, 2024
Stack overflow in Tenda AC8 v4 firmware 16.03.34.06 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted WAN-settings POST. The fromAdvSetMacMtuWan path copies attacker-controlled wanMTU, wanSpeed, cloneType, MAC, serviceName, and serverName values with strcpy into a fixed-size stack array. The unauthenticated HTTP management endpoint is network-reachable, while reliable ROP execution depends on matching firmware library addresses and router runtime state.
