Unauthenticated database compromise via category SQL injection
Published Apr 27, 2026 · Updated Apr 27, 2026
SQL injection in NASA EOSDIS MODAPS 8.1 allows remote attackers to read or modify database data through the category parameter. The MODAPS web application inadequately validates the category HTTP GET value, allowing injected SQL syntax to alter queries executed by its PostgreSQL backend. No authentication or user interaction is required, and successful exploitation exposes sensitive records and permits arbitrary database queries.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
