Local file disclosure via resolved XML entities
Published Dec 9, 2024 · Updated Dec 11, 2024
XML external entity injection in Unstructured 0.14.2 and earlier allows remote attackers to read local files through crafted XML input. The partition_xml path calls lxml.etree.iterparse without disabling entity resolution, so a SYSTEM entity injects referenced file content into parser output. Exploitation requires an application to pass attacker-controlled XML into partition_xml; returned document text then exposes files readable by that process.
