Root access via hard-coded Telnet credentials
Published Feb 10, 2025 · Updated Feb 10, 2025
Hard-coded credentials in Tenda W18E firmware 16.01.0.8(1625) allow remote attackers to gain root access through Telnet. The firmware assigns the root account an immutable password and accepts it when the otherwise disabled Telnet service is enabled. Exploitation requires an enabled Telnet service and adjacent network access; successful login provides a root shell with full device control.
