CVE-2024-46340Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Administrator credential theft via cleartext factory-reset POST

Published Dec 10, 2024 · Updated Apr 3, 2025

Cleartext credential transmission in TP-Link TL-WR845N V4 builds 190219, 200909, and 201214 allows remote attackers to steal admin credentials. During factory reset, the /cgi/softup HTTP POST sends admin credentials without encryption, exposing them to ARP-poisoning packet capture. Attackers must already have network access; the captured credentials permit web-portal administration and remain usable after a firmware upgrade.
