Root code execution via writable post-link scripts
Published Dec 17, 2025 · Updated Dec 17, 2025
Local privilege escalation in Miniconda3 macOS installers before 23.11.0-1 allows local users to execute code as root. The prepare_installation.pkg stage creates two Python package post-link scripts as world-writable files, and run_installation.pkg invokes conda.exe, whose run_script() path executes those files with elevated permissions. Exploitation requires an administrator to install outside the home directory while a local low-privileged user tampers with the transient scripts.
