CVE-2024-45816Network attack vector

Bucket content disclosure via relative path traversal

Published Sep 17, 2024 · Updated Sep 18, 2024

Path traversal in Backstage TechDocs before 1.10.13 allows remote authenticated users to read unintended S3 or GCS bucket objects. The TechDocs backend uses an attacker-controlled documentation path to form a cloud-storage object key without keeping the resolved key inside the requested entity's prefix. The flaw is reachable only when TechDocs uses the AWS S3 or GCS publisher, and it bypasses Backstage permission checks without modifying or deleting stored content.
