Service interruption via crafted catalog API query
Published Sep 17, 2024 · Updated Sep 18, 2024
Prototype pollution in Backstage before 1.26.0 allows remote authenticated users to interrupt the catalog service with a crafted API query. Catalog API query processing accepts object attributes without adequately blocking prototype modification; the affected function and property path are undisclosed. Authenticated access and an installed catalog backend plugin are required, and the reported consequence is service interruption without data disclosure or modification.
