CVE-2024-45779

Heap-data disclosure or crash via extent-count overflow

Published Mar 3, 2025 · Updated Jun 30, 2026

Integer overflow in the BFS driver in GNU GRUB 2.12 and earlier allows local users to read heap data or crash GRUB via a crafted filesystem. The indirect-extent reader accepts an unvalidated extent-entry count, allowing its read-size calculation to wrap and trigger a heap out-of-bounds read. Exploitation requires high privileges and presenting a crafted or corrupted BFS filesystem to GRUB; impact is limited to disclosure or a crash.
