Browser code execution via custom api.uri payload
Published Oct 14, 2024 · Updated Feb 28, 2025
Stored XSS in Splunk Web allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript in another user’s browser through a saved payload. Splunk Web reads an attacker-controlled api.uri value from a custom configuration file through the /manager/search/apps/local endpoint without neutralizing it for browser execution. The gate is a low-privileged account without the admin or power role plus a second user’s browser visit; affected branches are Splunk Enterprise 9.1 before 9.1.6 and 9.2 before 9.2.3, and Splunk Cloud Platform 9.1.2312 before 9.1.2312.205 and 9.2.2403 before 9.2.2403.108.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=9.1 <9.1.6
- Affected versionversion=9.2 <9.2.3
