Restricted-data exposure via writable app knowledge objects
Published Oct 14, 2024 · Updated Feb 28, 2025
Missing authorization in Splunk Enterprise and Splunk Cloud Platform allows remote authenticated users to access restricted data. The SplunkDeploymentServerConfig app permits low-privileged roles to write knowledge objects whose searches execute as the shared nobody user. Splunk Web must be enabled, and the account must lack the admin and power roles; the exposed data depends on indexed content and app permissions.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=9.2 <9.2.3
- Affected versionversion=9.3 <9.3.1

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
