CVE-2024-45731Network attack vector

Remote code execution via cross-drive path traversal

Published Oct 14, 2024 · Updated Feb 28, 2025

Relative path traversal in Splunk Enterprise for Windows allows remote authenticated users to write files outside its installation drive. The Splunk Web app-creation endpoint processes upload paths without confining relative traversal to the Splunk installation drive. Exploitation requires a low-privileged account without admin or power roles and a separate-drive installation; a planted DLL executes if Windows later loads it.
