Hidden functionality in D-Link DIR-X4860 and COVR-X1870 firmware allows attackers to obtain Telnet shell access. Specific packets sent to the web service forcibly enable Telnet, after which embedded hard-coded credentials permit login. Attackers must share the device's local network, and successful access grants an authenticated Telnet session on the router.
