CVE-2024-45679Public exploit

Local code execution via double PLY line advance

Published Sep 18, 2024 · Updated Sep 18, 2024

Heap-based buffer overflow in Assimp before 5.4.3 allows local users to execute arbitrary code by importing a crafted PLY file. While skipping unknown PLY header elements, ParseHeader discards one getNextLine result and advances the IOStreamBuffer again, permitting an out-of-bounds heap read. An attacker must be able to invoke local model import with the malformed file; successful exploitation runs code in the importing process.
