Stored XSS via in-app PDF external actions
Published Sep 2, 2024 · Updated Mar 13, 2025
Stored XSS in Rocket.Chat Electron desktop through 6.3.4 allows remote authenticated users to run scripts via uploaded PDF links. The PDF external-action path keeps third-party link actions inside the Electron application rather than transferring them to a separate browser. Exploitation requires an uploaded file and recipient interaction with its crafted link, exposing data and actions available to the desktop session.
