Unintended memory access via unchecked response lengths
Published Sep 3, 2024 · Updated Jun 30, 2026
Buffer overflow in OpenSC pkcs15-init before 0.26.0 allows physically proximate attackers to access unintended memory through crafted APDU replies. The starcos_write_pukey, iasecc_sdo_parse, iasecc_se_parse, setcos_generate_key, and sc_hsm_determine_free_id paths omit file, buffer, or list length checks before access. Exploitation requires card enrollment with a crafted USB device or smart card; public sources do not define the resulting data exposure or corruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
