Unintended processing via unchecked APDU results
Published Sep 3, 2024 · Updated Jun 30, 2026
Use of uninitialized variables in OpenSC before 0.26.0 allows physically proximate attackers to trigger unintended processing during card enrollment. pkcs15-init fails to check return values in sc_pkcs15emu_tcos_init_ex and sc_pkcs15init_verify_secret before passing uninitialized values to strlen, sc_build_pin, and DES_set_key_unchecked. Exploitation requires a crafted USB device or smart card to return specially crafted APDU responses during the high-complexity enrollment path; published sources do not identify a more specific end consequence.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
