Unintended processing via unchecked function failures
Published Sep 3, 2024 · Updated Jun 30, 2026
Use of uninitialized values in OpenSC before 0.26.0 allows physically proximate attackers to trigger unintended processing with a crafted card. Within libopensc, cac_parse_aid accesses an uninitialized path after file selection fails, cardos_lifecycle_get suppresses an error before using an uninitialized value, and jpki_select_file mishandles a read result. Exploitation requires a crafted USB device or smart card to return malicious APDU responses; published sources do not define a more specific end effect than unintended processing.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
