CVE-2024-45615

Data exposure, modification, or interruption via uninitialized values

Published Sep 3, 2024 · Updated Jun 30, 2026

Use of uninitialized values in OpenSC before 0.26.0 allows physically proximate attackers to read or alter data or interrupt service. The cac_read_file, piv_get_challenge, sc_asn1_decode_object_id, sc_pkcs15emu_sc_hsm_decode_cvc, and PKCS#15 initialization paths consume variables that called functions leave unset when processing device responses. Exploitation requires a crafted USB device or smart card that supplies specially crafted APDU responses, and one affected path is limited to card enrollment.
